Hey everyone, I’ve been meaning to renew my Dominican passport, but I keep hearing different things about the documents required. Some say I need a birth certificate, others mention a police report. I just don’t want to show up to the consulate and be missing something important. Has anyone recently gone through this process and can tell me what exactly they asked for?

Yes, I went through this last year and I totally understand your frustration – it wasn’t clear to me either at first what documents were needed. In my case, I had to present the expired passport, the birth certificate (original and a notarized copy), a recent passport-style photo, a local ID, and a receipt for the payment of the fee. They didn’t ask me for a police report, but I think the requirements can vary slightly depending on the consulate you’re applying to. To be sure, I recommend checking out this very well-written article that really helped me: https://osheradvisors.com/blog/dominican-passport-renewal/ It explains in detail everything you need to prepare and even offers tips for those living outside the Dominican Republic. Hope it helps!
