Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a game concept and I had an interesting question. Have any of you ever tried to take inspiration from local stories, fairy tales or folklore, rather than Western sci-fi or classic fantasy? Most often I see people getting inspired by Scandinavian sagas, Greek myths or European fantasy. But we have a lot of interesting stories, heroes and themes ourselves.

Oh, I had similar thoughts, and I just recently came across cool article on this topic. It talks about how young developers find inspiration in their cultural roots and create games based on it. Here, read: https://www.mumbaikarsperspective.com/entertainment/indian-folklore-inspires-next-generation-of-game-developers/cid16798327.htm — really inspiring! I especially liked the part about how different regions and even villages in India have their own unique stories. Developers began to use them not just as decorations, but as the basis of the plot, gameplay, even an ethical system. Instead of a simple “good vs. evil” — karma, reincarnation, complex moral choices. This gives depth and makes you think. I think this is universal, not just for India. After all, every nation has something special that can inspire the creation of a truly living game world.
